A Class Action Lawsuit Filed Against Makers of Digitek
Last week a Digitek Class Action Suit was filed on behalf of Digitek victims against Actavis, Mylan Pharmaceuticals Inc. and UDL Laboratories due to serious injuries and deaths resulting from a heart medicine called Digitek, its generic version of digoxin. The Digitek class action lawsuit was filed in the US District Court in New Jersey due to some batches of the Digitek, Bertek & UDL Digoxin may have contained tablets that were twice the normal thickness and strength.
FDA Recall Digitek Due to Manufacturing Defect
The Food & Drug Administration (FDA) deemed the Digitek recall a Class I recall. The defendants in the this digitolis / digoxin / Digitek class action suit that produced and distributed Digitek, Bertek and UDL Digoxin, "voluntarily" recalled their generic brands of digoxin and removed them off the market shelves at pharmacies worldwide. Many pharmacies and health insurance companies sent out notice and warning letters to their customers informing them of the Digitek, Bertek / UDL recall. Further, at the time of the Digitek recall, Actavis stated that the the stronger tablets might also cause toxicity in renal-failure patients, heart rhythm irregularities, possible serious cardiac instability, heart attacks and sudden death.
DigitekŪ is used to treat heart failure and abnormal heart rhythms. According to medical experts, the existence of double strength tablets poses a risk of digitalis toxicity in patients with renal failure and possible death. Digitalis toxicity can cause nausea, vomiting, dizziness, low blood pressure, cardiac instability and bradycardia. Death can also result from excessive Digitalis intake.
